Sometimes You Just Have to Walk Down the Street

My car is in the shop right now.

It has been for the past week. I am a little bit upset about it. Most places in Austin are about a 30 minute drive from where I live in San Marcos.

However, I was still planning on going to Austin to find a cool spot to compare to Richmond. This plan changed when I decided to go to a coffee shop in San Marcos called Stellar Coffee Company, which is just a street over from my apartment. I walked in and it immediately felt right; this is the shop I can compare to Lamplighter Coffee Roasters in Richmond. It had the vibe and feel I was looking for. It was spacious, yet cozy. People were sitting casually talking to their friends, but people were also sitting alone quietly and studying. It was almost the antithesis to Alfred’s Coffee in Austin.

I did not hate Alfred’s Coffee, and I do not have anything against it. It was in the wrong spot for what I was searching for, and the setting and people did not fit the vibe and overall feel I was hoping to find. I know I will find a great coffee spot to call my favorite in Austin, but for now I am content with Stellar Coffee in San Marcos. Its wooden floors, dim lighting, good music, and décor are everything I need in a coffee shop and more. I decided to order a “Dirty Chai” latte, which is a chai latte with a shot of espresso added to it – it was delicious. I will definitely be going there a lot, and spending way more money on coffee that I would prefer.

Good Humans. Great Vibes. Stellar Coffee.

Are you kidding me? Wow. I love their tagline. It is so simple, and it emulates what the shop is all about. My favorite part of my experience there was the good coffee, but the sign painted on the wall will stick with me for a while. It read, “Be a good human”. Simple, but it is a great reminder. To me, it means that you should go through life and work hard and enjoy yourself, but do not forget how important it is to spread kindness and positivity. Be a good human, and try Stellar Coffee.
